This week we feature the HTC Cedar, a smartphone which had already surfaced as it was included in the HTC 2009 lineup that was unveiled a while ago, a few thought from MIX09 about some unknown things about Windows Mobile 6.5 and ING Change Font, a new utility suitable for changing system fonts on WinMo smartphones and Pocket PCs.Let's start right away...
HTC Cedar
There are some new devices coming out for the CDMA world here in the States (and around the world) that may be of some interest to everyone.
I originally saw on Engadget Mobile where HTC will be releasing the Cedar, again, a CDMA device, sometime during the second quarter of this year. The FCC site has posted a filing; but it asks for pictures to be held until 30-Jul-09.
As a CDMA device, it is either going to hit Verizon Wireless or Sprint networks, here in the US. My guess is that VzW is a better candidate, as Sprint is going to be banking a lot on the Palm Pre.

8 Unknown Things about Windows Mobile 6.5
I was poking around some of my favorite sites the other day and noticed an interesting article at pocketnow.com on WM 6.5. They took a look at the WM seminar held at MIX 09, and came up with some interesting things that have been implemented in WM 6.5. In short here they are:
- The WM Honeycomb Start Menu has been removed. While the design of the Start Menu hasn’t changed, the honeycomb outline around each icon has been removed at end user requests (this had been covered by us a few days ago).
- The Today Screen is similar to that found on the Zune, and users can navigate it by scrolling up and down. The selector is stationary.
- The Marketplace is supposed to be launched later this fall; and will function in a similar manner as the iPhone App Store (auto updates, categories, user reviews, etc.). However, I saw at least one article this week that suggests that it may be put on hold. If I find more on this, I’ll let everyone know.
- Developers will have access to their apps via a Developer’s Dashboard; and all submissions will be evaluated against a published, objective set of criteria (very much unlike the iPhone App Store...)
Change your System Font with this Cool Utility
One of my most favorite activities is tweaking my mobile devices. I like cooked ROM’s for some of my devices and enjoy all of the new and fun things that come with that challenge.
One of the things that is a lot of fun for me is customizing the look and feel of my device. While some of that involves utilities like Spb Mobile Shell and Winterface, I’m not entirely crazy about having to buy retail software for that. Case in point, while bouncing around the internet, I bumped into this interesting utility [found via Mobility Site].
ING Change Font will allow you to change different font choices on your device, the size, characteristics, etc. The utility is free and allows you to change choices for Font System, Font Menu, Font PopUp and Font OOM. The utility can be downloaded here.
